1.1 - 2026-09-21

The migration to the new DAIC environment is progressing. Based on the latest planning, we have updated the migration timeline previously announced in July 2026.

Updated migration timeline

• Now - 2 October: both the current and new DAIC environments are available.
• 3 - 11 October: both environments will be unavailable due to planned data-centre maintenance.
• From 12 October: both environments will return to service, with accounting enabled on the new DAIC environment.

Migration to the new DAIC

Users of the current DAIC can already request access to the new environment via TopDesk (Please select the DAIC-other as Contact/ Contributing group), and we encourage you to start migrating and testing your workflows where possible.

The hardware itself will migrate in stages:

• Mid-October: approximately half of the remaining hardware in the current DAIC will move to the new environment.
• Early November: the remaining hardware is planned to move to the new environment.

Newly acquired DAIC hardware will be installed directly in the new environment.

Planned maintenance: 3-11 October

Both DAIC environments will be unavailable during the maintenance period. The maintenance may also affect other ICT services, including parts of the central storage infrastructure and virtual servers.

We will communicate further updates as the migration progresses.

1.2 - 2026-09-17

DAIC is opening its Fall 2026 hardware expansion round.
Research groups interested in contributing compute resources are invited to participate.

Given current market signals indicating expected price increases (particularly for memory components) it is important to consolidate commitments early to secure favorable pricing.

Contributions will expand the shared GPU capacity available to participating groups.

Participation Window

Expressions of interest are requested by mid-October 2026.
Final commitments will be coordinated directly with participating groups.

Deadlines will be enforced to ensure timely procurement.

How to Participate

Groups interested in participating are encouraged to contact the REIT team to discuss:

• Intended contribution amount
• Funding source and project code
• Hardware preferences

1.3 - 2026-09-01

DAIC hardware phased out over the summer

As part of the ongoing renewal of DAIC, several older compute nodes were phased out over the summer.

The retired hardware includes:

• 5 CPU-only nodes with AMD EPYC processors (influ4-6, 3dgi1-2);
• 4 GPU nodes with NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti GPUs (influ2-3, insy15-16); and
• 1 GPU node with 8 × NVIDIA V100-SXM2 GPUs (cor1).

These systems were installed between 2020 and 2021 and had reached approximately 5.5–6.5 years of service.

1.4 - 2026-07-06

The new DAIC environment is now available for testing and gradual migration.

Migration timeline

• Now - 2 October: both the current and new DAIC environments are available. We encourage users to start migrating and testing their workflows on the new environment.
• 3 -11 October: planned maintenance week. Please assume DAIC will be unavailable during this period.
• From 12 October onwards: only the new DAIC environment will be available.

After the migration, the new documentation will move to the regular DAIC URL.

1.5 - 2026-06-26

DAIC will be unavailable from 3-11 October 2026 due to planned maintenance in TU Delft’s data centres.

Please plan your work accordingly. Jobs running before the maintenance may be interrupted, and new jobs should not be scheduled during this period.

The maintenance may also affect other ICT services, including parts of the central storage infrastructure and virtual servers. The exact impact on individual services will be communicated by ICT where applicable.

DAIC will return to service after the maintenance window has been completed.

1.6 - 2026-02-25

1.7 - 2025-12-04

Maintenance overview

As part of this maintenance:

• Six GPU nodes will be removed from DAIC and migrated to a new environment for testing.
• The new environment will form the basis of the upcoming DAIC upgrade in Q1 2026.

Maintenance time line

Before the maintenance:

• DAIC can be used normally.
• Jobs with a requested end-time after Wednesday December 10 23:59 will remain pending until after the maintenance.

During the maintenance (December 11 00:00 - Wednesday December 17 23:59):

• No jobs can run; queued jobs will remain in the queue.
• All nodes, including the login nodes, will be unavailable
• All sessions on the login nodes will be lost.
• 6 GPU nodes will be removed from DAIC.

After the maintenance:

• DAIC can be used normally again.
• All partitions and GPU types will remain available.
• Jobs that were held previously because of the maintenance will remain on hold. To release your jobs:
  1. Update your Kerberos ticket with auks -a,
  2. Release the job(s) with scontrol release <JobID>.

Upcoming new environment Q1 2026

To ensure the continuity of DAIC, DAIC will be migrated to a new environment, (with an up-to-date OS, scheduler and software stack) in the first quarter of 2026.

The migration will be phased, to allow for an as seamless as possible transition from the old to the new environment. The 6 GPU nodes (of different CPU & GPU types) will be migrated first, to prepare, test and fine-tune the new environment. When the test environment is fully operational, it will allow you to modify and test your jobs in the new environment. Then, the bulk of the DAIC nodes will be migrated to the new environment, and the old environment will be discontinued. More details will be provided when the new environment is ready for testing.

1.8 - 2025-10-31

DAIC is expected to be offline during the week [10-17] December due to planned work in TU Delft’s data centers.

Please plan around this week: The planned work will affect other ICT services too, such as TU Delft Project services, DelftBlue, and virtual servers, but the impact is not yet confirmed. Please assume your own share may be unavailable during this period.

1.9 - 2025-10-17

It’s now possible to submit Slurm jobs directly from DAIC compute nodes.

This allows workflow managers such as Snakemake, Nextflow, or other orchestration tools to run smoothly without needing to return to the login node for each submission.

For most users, this means that standard HPC workflows will now function more smoothly on DAIC.
